Cathy H Cheng, DDS, PhD
General Dentist, Owner of MI Smile Family Dental
While she found her research work extremely interesting, Dr. Cheng had a deep desire to improve human health more directly. This desire led her to the field of dentistry, where she could use her skilled and artistic hands to help people improve their oral health and transform their smiles.
Following her passion, Dr. Cheng earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, where she graduated at the top of her class and was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), a National Honor Dental Society. She also received General Practice Residency (GPR) training at the Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital and the University of Michigan Hospital, during which she gained experience treating medically compromised patients and individuals with complex dental needs.
Dr. Cheng maintains a membership in the Academy of General Dentistry. She firmly believes in lifelong learning and has been to various continuing education courses every year in order to deliver optimal care for all of her patients. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Cheng enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children and the goldendoodle Sky. She is proud of being an avid runner and can always be found hitting the trails and logging the miles!
Arrita Mallory, DDS
Associate General Dentist
Dr. Arrita Mallory grew up in Farmington Hills, MI and attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate studies, studying Evolutionary Anthropology. Prior to attending dental school, she completed a year of community service with AmeriCorps in Detroit tutoring and mentoring elementary school aged children, which was a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and returned to Ann Arbor to be closer to friends and family. Dr. Mallory enjoys the variety of care that general dentistry encompasses. She loves helping patients establish dental health with compassion and forming connections with patients daily.
When not at the office she especially enjoys traveling, cooking, and hosting get-togethers for loved ones. She and her husband stay busy caring for their young daughter and active dog, Blanche.
Dr. Wilson George Smillie
Retired
Dr. Smillie ran this practice for 47 years. He saw and treated many patients while serving the community. He still enjoys playing tennis and traveling frequently. Dr. Smillie fully endorses Dr. Cheng as the new owner of this dental practice. He has offered to sit down with patients that may have questions pertaining to their treatment. He comes in occasionally as a coach and mentor to our dental staff, although he is fully retired and enjoying it.
Shawna
Office Manager
Shawna has been in healthcare and the dental field since 2009. She has a passion for helping our patients find a path to a healthy and beautiful smile. Whether it's navigating insurance benefits, creating treatment options for our uninsured patients, or just making everyone feel at home, she loves to go the extra mile. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and her pets. And as often as possible, she loves traveling and hiking, especially finding new places to explore in and around Michigan.
Angela
Dental Assistant
Angela was raised in Gibraltar, MI. This is where she took two years of Dental Occupation courses through her high schools vocational school program. She has made this a wonderful career for herself, being in the field for the past 20 years. She enjoys helping Dr. Cheng achieve the dental care her patients truly deserve, and is knowledgeable in all aspects of Dentistry.
In her free time she enjoys baking and spending time with her daughter.
